The Three Masteries model treats influence as the product of three linked capabilities. Self-mastery establishes the emotional stability, perspective, and integrity required to act deliberately. Influence mastery builds trust with people who face competing demands and constant approaches from others. Process mastery converts that trust into a carefully chosen outcome by clarifying which agreement should be pursued and how to advance it. Weakness in any layer undermines the result: composure without influence creates isolation, influence without process creates activity without outcomes, and process without integrity becomes manipulation. The model therefore begins internally, moves relationally, and ends operationally, with boundaries guiding which opportunities deserve attention.

Core principles
- 01Inner alignment precedes effective influence.
- 02Trust matters more than indiscriminate networking.
- 03A repeatable process turns goodwill into purposeful outcomes.
- 04Intentional boundaries protect relationships and attention.
- 05Choose carefully which yeses are worth causing.
How to run it
- 1
Establish Self-Mastery
Regulate your emotional state and clarify your values before attempting to influence anyone. Enter the interaction from stability rather than urgency or ego.
- 2
Understand the Human Context
Identify what the other person values, fears, needs, and must protect. Account for the volume of requests and pressure they already experience.
- 3
Build Influence Through Service
Demonstrate care and reliability through actions that benefit the person, not merely your agenda. Allow credibility to accumulate over repeated interactions.
- 4
Choose the Right Yes
Define the specific agreement that would produce meaningful, ethical value for everyone involved. Decline opportunities that conflict with your purpose or boundaries.
- 5
Apply a Repeatable Process
Sequence the conversations, commitments, and follow-through required to reach the chosen outcome. Keep responsibilities and next actions explicit.
In the wild
An agent is considering introducing a prominent client to a charitable initiative. She first checks that the cause aligns with her values, learns what kinds of commitments the client can realistically support, and contributes research without asking for anything. She then proposes one bounded introduction with a defined purpose and handles every follow-up personally.
→ The introduction creates value without exploiting the relationship or overwhelming the client.
A founder receives access to a celebrity through a trusted mutual contact but realizes the proposed campaign offers little benefit to the celebrity's audience. Instead of forcing the opportunity, the founder explains the mismatch and preserves the relationship for a more suitable collaboration.
→ A short-term no protects trust and leaves room for a stronger future yes.
Common mistakes
Using Mindset as a Substitute for Skill
Visualization and emotional regulation do not replace relationship competence or operational follow-through. The three masteries must reinforce one another.
Talking to Everyone
Indiscriminate networking consumes attention and weakens intentionality. Select relationships and asks according to clear mutual value.
Confusing Influence With Manipulation
A yes caused without authenticity, service, or respect for boundaries is not sustainable influence.
Is it for you?
Best for
It is best for leaders, agents, fundraisers, and entrepreneurs seeking consequential agreements with complex or highly sought-after people.
Not ideal for
It is not ideal for transactional situations where manipulation, indiscriminate outreach, or short-term conversion is the objective.
